Scotty McGee

Scotty McGee is one of the most accomplished telemarkers in the country. His first Tele turns were at Snowbird in 1982. He teaches at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort in Wyoming. He served 4 terms on the PSIA Nordic Team from 2000-2016 with two of those as Team Coach. You'll find him tearing up Jackson Hole on his Outlaws on his days off, touring in Grand Teton National Park, or hiking Glory in the spring. He’s also made a specialty of cruising the the high Teton backcountry corn on his skate skis in the spring. In the summer, he guides for Rendezvous River Sports in his kayak or on his SUP.

Where are you from, when did you begin skiing and telemarking, and where do you ski most now?

I was born in Silver Spring, MD, but spent most of my first 16 years in Nashville, TN. I began skiing at age 6 in Taos – road-trippin’ across I-70 in the ’67 Volvo station wagon. At 16, my family moved to Salt Lake City and after debating whether to XC or alpine ski with my best friend, we met in the middle and went Tele’ing at the ‘Bird. I ski mostly in the Tetons now.

What are your favorite boots and skis?

Crispi XR’s and the Rossi Senders.

What do you like about our bindings?

Positive feel. No pre-release. Easy to adjust. Highly durable. They keep the ball of your foot/boot down for you maximizing trail foot contact, and optimizing control, and also making learning easy for beginners and allowing advanced skiers to apply tip pressure.

What do you like to do for fun when you’re not skiing?

River SUP, rollerblade, unicycle, bake, read and write.
