Because this sh*t matters

As a business 100% reliant on snow, it's a huge problem that winters are getting shorter across the planet. So we've taken it upon ourselves, along with others in the snowsports industry, to take action and help turn things around.

It's a no-brainer that manufacturing has an impact on the climate. So, we're taking responsibility to reduce our impact in a variety of ways: from tangible action at our Factory to political action for the greater good.

Partnerships = Change

22 Designs partners with Protect Our Winters to give our community the chance to be climate advocates, and we lobby our congressional delegation on climate action with help from Citizens' Climate Lobby.

Durability = Sustainability

Every binding that we produce is made in the USA with the most durable materials and designed to last a lifetime.  Regional material sourcing and local assembly and part manufacturing means that each piece of our products has as minimal an amount of impact as possible.

Engineering bomber products has always been our gold standard. And now we understand how much less impact a quality product has on the environment in its lifetime of use. Now it's on you to power them up and down the slopes!

Our Climate Action Plan

Measurable Change

In 2020, we joined the Outdoor Industry Association's Climate Action Corps. This partnership gave us the tools to measure our impact, track ongoing data, and make a long-term plan to significantly reduce our products' carbon emissions.

The installation of a rooftop solar array on our factory in 2021 now covers 90% of our annual production, R&D, and office electric usage.

The Future

Steps in the right Direction

How do we know what change looks like? It takes an extra effort by our leadership to identify, measure, and track our carbon emissions (tCO2e).

Our 2021 estimated Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions were 104mt CO2e, or about 14kg per binding.  Our Goal is 7kg per binding by 2030 (Science-Aligned Physical Intensity Reduction Target)

The installation of solar panels helped us quickly achieve our Scope 2 emissions reduction target and continues to provide 90% of our electricity usage.  Our Scope 3 targets will be more challenging, but we're committed to meeting our goal.

  • Scope 1 Emmissions

    These are a company’s direct emissions from owned or controlled sources. Examples include combustion of propane and gasoline.

  • Scope 2 Emmissions

    These are indirect emissions from a company's purchased energy generated off-site, or the electricity we buy from our local cooperative.

  • Scope 3 Emmissions

    These are a company’s indirect emissions that occur in the value chain, including both upstream and downstream emissions. Examples include purchased materials and services, shipping, and business travel.
