Alison Gannett

This World Champion Freeskier travels the world in search of a ski great ski adventure. Not only does she love to telemark, alpine, nordic and snowboard, but she also dedicates a majority of her life to saving our snow, by focusing on solutions to climate change. She graduated Magna Cum Laude with Honors from the University of Vermont, specializing in Climate Change, and EthnoBotany, and went onto study alternative energy and energy efficient building design at Solar Energy International. She opened her first business dedicated to climate change in 1991, and has founded and runs four non-profits dedicated to solutions for global warming, including the Save Our Snow Foundation. She spends the majority of her time training individuals, businesses and governments around the world on her four-step CROP™ solution framework for global warming.

In addition her many skiing titles and ski film roles around the world, in both telemarking and alpine skiing, she also walks the green walk and talks the green talk. She designed and built the first straw bale home in a National Historic District in 1997, and converted the world's first solar-powered PHEV SUV - a plug-in-hybrid modified Ford Escape that gets over 100 miles to the gallon. She also uses her fame as a World Champion Extreme Skier, using her crazy ski expeditions to bring attention to her research on documenting global warming/glacial recession in Bolivia, Argentina, Bhutan, India, South Africa, France, Switzerland, Canada, The US, and Pakistan. She has appeared in many movies, TV shows, and Magazines and has received many awards for her work. In addition to titles such as "Freeskier of the Year", this year she was nominated by Outside Magazine as a "Green-All-Star" for her efforts on solutions to climate change, alongside such greats as Willie Nelson, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and Leonardo DiCaprio.

During the winter, she is on tour in her converted SUV, for her "Global Cooling Tour" - traveling the world illustrating solutions to climate change while skiing powder that she is trying to save. She travels with her BombShell demo fleet during the Tour, and also gets women turned onto telemark skiing with her demos, her Rippin Chix camps and Avalanche Clinics.

Where are you from, when did you begin skiing and telemarking, where do you ski most now?

I am originally from New Hampshire, but have been living in Crested Butte, the birthplace of modern US telemark skiing, for 15 years. I learned to telemark on a pair of 205 green Rossignol 7S's and wimpy low lace up boots.

What are your favorite boots and skis?

Karhu Jil and Garmont Electra.

What do you like about BombShells?

Telemark bindings have in the past been the forgotten step child - when boots were wimpy and skis noodly the interface between the two was a moot point. Suddenly with plastic boots and fat skis, the binding is slowly moving to the forefront. BombShells are one of the only binders on the market that allow for the control and quickness that telemarking deserves. When I tried my first pair, I suddenly realized what I had been missing all those years - durability, precision, torsional stiffness, quickness, responsiveness, and adaptability. On my demo skis the binding can fit any size boot without changing cables, and I can switch the flex with the push of a button to allow for peoples' different skiing styles and abilities. The binding has taken my own personal skiing to the next level - like suddenly driving a Porsche when you had only ever driven an Escort. In addition, I never boot out and have almost zero heel droop. Between each plunge of the knee, I feel the control and snap that my alpine setup delivers.

What do you like to do for fun when you're not skiing?

I love to surf, mountain bike, read books, work hard, practice yoga, climb ice and rock, laugh with my friends, family and boyfriend, and try to save the world on the side.
