HammerHead & BombShell

Replacing the Cable Spreader

Tools needed: 1/8" allen wrench, medium flat-head screwdriver, channel-lock pliers.

Replacing the Cable Spreader

First, unscrew the coils from the heel tube.

Replacing the Cable Spreader

Unscrew the machine screw in the spreader with an 1/8" allen wrench.

Replacing the Cable Spreader

Pull the coils apart to pop out the inside spreader.

Replacing the Cable Spreader

Slide a medium size flat-head screwdriver into the outside spreader. Use a screwdriver that won't open it more than necessary when vertical. Of course it doesn't matter if you're throwing this one out, but you want to find a blade that's not too big to use for the new spreader. The optimum blade width is 9/32", or just over 1/4". The blade will need to be at least this wide.

Replacing the Cable Spreader

Twist to open up the spreader.

Replacing the Cable Spreader

Slide the coils to the middle and pull the spreader off.

Reverse the directions to install the new spreader. You'll want to use channel-lock pliers to squeeze the orange inside spreader into the outside spreader before installing the screw and nut:
